Sending ouur most heartfelt condolences to the MacKinnon family.
We are so saddened by Ed’s sudden passing. Ed was Glenn’s business partner but he was a friend first, more like like a brother to us, an uncle to our boys. He was family.
So many memories come to mind when I think of all the years he was a part of our lives. Even though he teased endlessly, he was still the voice of reason, someone we could always talk to about anything. Someone who wouldn’t hesitate to tell us how he saw it. And he was most often “correct”!
Ed was an exceptionally kind, generous and caring person. Always showing an interest in what was going on with everyone he knew. Even after retiring, and moving back to the “Right Coast” to be near his family, he made time to stay connected with his West Coast friends, regularly checking in, and wanting to know what was happening in our world. He was especially supportive to me these past few years, I will miss our FaceTime chats.
Ed will be deeply missed by all of us.

I enjoyed a long professional association with Edd while working on a number of architectural projects in Vancouver as a Construction Project Manager. He was always a gentleman, easy to talk to, and happy to share his special knowledge of the building code with me.
My deepest condolences to the family and the many friends he touched.

Our sincere condolences on the sudden passing of our dear friend Ed MacKinnon. He will be greatly missed by us and his many friends on the West Coast. A talented and hard working guy who always found time to spend with his friends and families, be it parties, dinners, skiing, hiking or other adventures. He especially loved our kids, and they loved their "Uncle Ed" even when he teased them.
When I first moved to Vancouver he was quick to offer me a place to sleep at his apartment. I slept on his living room floor....on a woven grass mat....that he proudly claimed he never had to clean as the dirt fell through the mat. Clever our Ed! ;-)
Our dear friend Ed will be greatly missed from coast to coast!

Our condolences to the MacKinnon Family on the sudden passing of Ed.
Ed was an extraordinary person. He was obviously very intelligent and accomplished, but I will remember him most for his kindness, generosity and humour. He had a sharp wit and was always ready with a quip or a joke, or to poke fun at himself.
From hosting parties, to sharing his cabin for get-aways, to organizing ski days he made it fun for everyone. Years ago he regularly drove his "ski bus" to Mt. Baker and would let you hitch a ride with him but only if you were ready by 6:30 am sharp! No slacking off!!
He was an honourary Uncle to many families out west including ours. Ed was such a loyal and supportive friend to our family. We were so lucky to have him in our life.
Ed will not be forgotten.

My dad (frank mattia) had a very strong connection with ed meeting him through LMDG. Me (his son) also had the honour of meeting his several times at functions in Vancouver, or the Whistler weekend. I remember when he said a speech that was so thought out and meaning full as well as a touch of humour. He would always send me a birthday message or even just a note to ask how I was. I know that I will miss Ed greatly. May he Rest in Peace.

I extend my condolences to the MacKinnon family on Ed's death. Ed and I, cousins, lived together at my Uncle Art and Auntie El's (O'Brien) home in Ottawa while we attended university. Their generosity and kindness gave us the opportunity to fulfill our educational goals. Free room and board were certainly generous gifts. I remember seeing Ed coming home exhausted from his summer job building swimming pools. After he moved to Vancouver, we visited several times. Early in his career there were many unemployed architects in Vancouver, but not Ed. With his hard work ethic he was always able to find employment. We were not in touch in later years but I am pleased to learn that he had great success in his career.

We first met Ed in 1998 the day we moved in to our cabin across from his. We became close friends, hiking buddies, and shared many wonderful weekends enjoying the outdoors. Ed was a terrific host to visitors including family, friends, and co-workers, and we often had the pleasure of meeting many of them. I’ll cherish the memories of time we had with Ed up in the mountains, and those memories will last forever. To the MacKinnon Family, may you find comfort in the memory of your loved one, and our deepest sympathy.

Since Ed still lived in BC for the first years of my childhood, I originally only knew him as the uncle we saw in the summer that would take us for ice cream. That quickly changed as soon as he moved back to PEI upon retirement — he became an extraordinary host for holiday meals, a frequent lunch companion, an advisor, and a friend. Although I no longer live in PEI, I loved visiting his lovely home, his impromptu visits at my parents’ place, or squeezing in a lunch with him whenever I could. I have two favourite memories of uncle Ed. The first memory is when I introduced Ed to a “new” restaurant, South Central Kitchen & Provisions — the best sandwich shop in Summerside! One thing about Ed — he could be hard to please, and even harder to “wow”. After he so thoroughly enjoyed his meal, I suggested we walk to Holman’s Ice Cream for dessert, which was another first for him. Again, he loved it! I still tell people with glee that I introduced him to those two staples in his food scene. My second favourite memory is when Ed took me for a drive to Green Park while I was recovering from a quite intense surgery a couple years ago. I remember feeling emotional on the drive there because of how kind it was for him to get me out of the house for a walk in the park, even if I wasn’t able to communicate well during that time. I’ll always remember him for the warmth, selflessness, and generosity he consistently showed me and many members of our MacKinnon family.

ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
