Obituary of Bill Schurman
The death occurred at his late residence on Thursday, April 20, 2023, of Bill Schurman, of Summerside, age 67 years. Born in Summerside, he was the son of Layton and Marsha (Delaney) Schurman.
Survived by his wife Gloria (Gaudet): son Tim (Ashley Beaton) and his precious granddaughter Ruby; his brothers David (Debbie) and Steven (Shawn), and his sister Susan (Mike) Rioux; as well as several nieces,nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
Bill was an accomplished athlete, having played primarily hockey, baseball, and golf. His career spanned decades in the recreation, facility management and events field. He served on dozens of Boards and Executives and is credited with the early development of the area of sports hosting in Summerside.
We are grateful to so many people throughout Bill’s life, most recently health supporters Dr. Ron Nicholson and Dianne, staff at Prince County Hospital, the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre team, as well as the hundreds of folks who took the time to send notes or inquire about him over the past several months. And of course the many family, friends and co-workers along the way.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, Summerside, until Tuesday April 25, 2023, where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours on Monday from 3 -7 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 9:00 -10:00 a.m.
Those in attendance are invited to a reception at the Strong Memorial Auditorium, Trinity United Church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the PEI Cancer Society or the PEI Humane Society would be appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
