Obituary of Newport, Ruby Bertha
The death occurred peacefully at Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Thursday, May 15th , 2014 of Ruby Bertha Newport (nee Murphy) of Kinkora, P.E.I., aged 79 years. Ruby was born on December 15th, 1934 in McNeills Mills, P.E.I. to her late parents Herbert and Pansy (nee Rogers) Murphy.
Loving partner of Bill Murphy and loving mother of Garry of NFLD., Linda Quigley of Summerside, Roger of Kinkora, Julie MacDonald (Rob) of Borden-Carleton, Colleen Sudsbury of Kensington Grant of Borden-Carleton and son in-law Charlie of Borden-Carleton. Also lovingly remembered by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Survived by her sisters Vaunda Bigney of Edmonton, AB. and Greta Stead (Gary) of Chipman, AB..
Besides her parents, Ruby was predeceased by her daughter Marilyn MacDonald, brothers Ivan, Claude and Jim Murphy.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside. By personal request there will be no funeral service or visiting hours held. Interment to take place in the Bideford United Church Cemetery, Bideford. Memorial donations in Ruby's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
