Obituary of Steele, Richard "Dick" Joseph
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summeride, P.E.I. on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015 of Richard "Dick" Joseph Steele of Summerside, P.E.I., aged 79 years. Dick was born in St. Nicholas, P.E.I. to his late parents Malcolm and Winifred (nee Poirier) Steele.
Beloved husband of Esther (nee Gallant) Steele and loving father of Blair (Lorielee) of Union Road, Dan (Loretta) of Cornwall and Catherine (Kerry) Avery of Labrador City, NL. Also lovingly remembered by his 4 grandchildren; Brittany, Brandon, Jack and Michael and several nieces and nephews. Survived by the following brothers and sisters: Robert (Norma) of Summerside, Betty (Donald) Purcell of New Jersey, U.S.A., Charles (Gloria), Marjorie (Allan) McInnis and Peter (Joy) all of Summerside.
Besides his parents, Dick was predeceased by his son Gordon and his father and mother-in-law Nicholas and Lucy Gallant.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Saturday, January 17th , where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m.. Interment to take place in St. Paul's Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Dick's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Parkinson's Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated. By family request, there will be no visiting hours held.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
