Obituary of Sonier, Joseph Benjamin "Ben"
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Monday, December 28th, 2015 of Joseph Benjamin "Ben" Sonier of Summerside, P.E.I. , aged 83 years. Ben was born in Summerside to his late parents Lawrence and Julia (nee Fanion) Sonier.
Beloved husband of the late Ann (nee Gallant) Sonier and loving father of JoAnn Sonier-Boyd (Lee) of Oromocto, N.B., Catherine Clayton (Kevin) of Bridgewater, N.S., Carolyn Sharpe (Stephen) of Ellerslie, and Doug Sonier (Rose Marie) of Summerside. Survived by his sister Julia Marchand of Ottawa, ON. and son-in-law Ray Pierce of London, ON. Also lovingly remembered by his 11 grandchildren Jasmine, Julie, Colleen, Tyson, Carla, Meghan, Melissa, Catherine, Adam, Melanie and Jason, his 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and his parents, Ben was predeceased by his daughters Patricia Kennedy and Beverly Pierce and his brothers and sisters: Madeline Sonier, Robert Sonier, Blanche Clow, Theresa Hill and Victor Sonier.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Monday, January 4th, 2016, then to St. Paul's Church, Summerside for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in the church cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Ben's memory to the A.L.S. Society would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Sunday afternoon only, January 3rd from 2 - 5 p.m..

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
