Obituary of Cormier, Joseph "Elmer"
The death occurred peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at the Palliative Care Unit of the Community Hospital, O'Leary, P.E.I. on Monday, April 24th, 2017 of Joseph "Elmer" Cormier of North Enmore, P.E.I. aged 65 years. Elmer was born in Summerside, P.E.I. to his father Joseph Cormier and his mother, the late Alma (nee Arsenault) Cormier.
Survived by his brothers and sisters: Doreen, Edward, Roma Arsenault (Lloyd), Earl (Brenda), Laura MacKinnon (Chisholm), Elvin (Tammy), Lorne (Karen), Janet Fielding (Greg), Brian (Michelle) and Roger (Kim). Besides his mother, Elmer was predeceased by his brothers Norman and Clarence. Also lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law Pauline and Lois Cormier, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
By personal request, Elmer was accepted by Dalhousie Medical Science Centre, Halifax, N.S. for the advancement of medical education and research. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 29th at St. Paul's Church, Summerside at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the church cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Elmer's memory to the Prince County Hospital Palliative Care Unit would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Friday evening, from 6 - 9 p.m.
Following the funeral mass at St. Paul's Church on Saturday afternoon, Elmer's family would like to invite family and friends to a celebration of his life at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club, Summerside.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
