Obituary of Gallant, Paul Douglas
The death occurred peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on Thursday, October 5th, 2017 of Paul Douglas Gallant of Summerside, PE, aged 60 years. Paul was born in Summerside to Alyre and the late Mary (Barriault) Gallant.
Paul worked for many years as Grocery Manager at IGA and for the last 18 years was Program and Scheduling Coordinator for the City of Summerside. He has been a fixture at Credit Union Place since it opened 10 years ago. Paul was a passionate sports enthusiast and sports statistician and was a registered Level 5 Umpire for softball and baseball, having officiated at five national championships across Canada. He was Games Control person for every national softball championship in Summerside and also served as Announcer and Time Keeper for the Summerside Junior Hockey Team. He was most proud of being in charge of the off-ice officials for the AHL Charlottetown Senators.
Survived by his brothers and sisters: Roger (Judy), Roma Steele (Jim), Peter (Christine), Anne Butler (Paul), David (Lori) and Dennis (Rachael). Also survived by his sister-in-law Eva Gallant as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his mother, Paul was predeceased by his brother Gary.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Thursday, October 12th for a funeral mass at St. Paul's Church, Summerside at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory to the PCH Foundation or Jumpstart Program would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Wednesday, 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
