Obituary of Fuller, Malcolm George

Malcolm (Mac) George Fuller, 62, of Central Bedeque, PEI, formerly of Baddeck, NS, died peacefully at his home on January 18th, 2018 only weeks after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. Mac was unique, kind, and brilliant. Born in Montreal, his parents moved to Baddeck, NS when he was two. After graduating from Baddeck Rural High School in 1973, he earned his diploma in mechanical engineering technology from the NS Eastern Institute of Technology. Like his father, he was a volunteer fire fighter for 25 years. He began his career at Michelin, worked at the National Research Council in Ottawa, was employed as school board maintenance supervisor (in Cape Breton during the 1980s and most recently in PEI), ran his own small engine repair business, and worked hard in a variety of construction and technical project management roles. Outside of work, he enjoyed boating, scuba diving, snowmobiling, hunting, spelunking, hiking, and adventuring off the beaten path. Mac was a skilled mechanic, fixing up cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, and planes. He earned a private pilot's license at age 40, and rebuilt two Kitfox ultra-light aircraft. He also restored the 67-year-old British wooden Gauntlet sailboat Gay Wind, and sailed her around the Bras d'Or Lakes and beyond, earning a first place trophy for a leg in Race the Cape in 2013. Mac is survived by his partner Valerie; his two children Shauna and Janice and their mother Catherine Ann; his mother Queenie; his brothers Reg, Tom, and Bill; and his granddaughters Anna and Bronwen. He is predeceased by his father, Mac Senior. Memorial gatherings for Mac will be held in Summerside at East Prince Funeral Home (245 Pope Road) on Friday, January 19th from 4 to 6 pm, and also in Baddeck, Cape Breton at the Bras d'Or Yacht Club (1 Jones Street) the evening of Wednesday, January 24th, from 4 to 8 pm. Memorial donations in Mac's memory can be made to East Prince Palliative Home Care. By personal request there will be no funeral service held.
