Obituary of Carruthers, John Gordon
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Wednesday, January 30th , 2019 of John "Jack" Gordon Carruthers of Summerside, aged 88 years. Jack was born in Roseville, P.E.I. to his late parents Albert and Mae (nee Perry) Carruthers.
Beloved husband of Helena (nee Haywood) Carruthers. Loving father of Jim (Betty) of Bridgewater, N.S., Don (Tracey) of Westlock, AB., Danny (Susan) of Kitchener, ON. and Jason Carruthers of Edmonton, AB. Also lovingly remembered by his step-children Kevin (Darlene) DesRoche of Richmond, Bruce (Linda) DesRoches of Miscouche, Brian (Rose-Marie) DesRoches of Miscouche, Wade (Tanya) DesRoches of Miscouche, Blair (Silvia) DesRoches of Hope River, Mary (David) Pollard of North Bay, ON., and Nancy DesRoches of Summerside and his brother and sister-in-laws Eunice Steele of Summerside and Clarence (Theresa) Haywood of Cape Kildare. Jack will be sadly missed by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brother Russell, step-daughter Debra DesRoche, and his brother-in-law Raymond (Leona) Haywood.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Monday, February 4th, then to St. Paul's Church, Summerside for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in the church cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Jack's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Sunday, 5 - 7 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
