Obituary of Underwood, Marjorie Lena
The death of Marjorie Lena (MacLean) Underwood occurred peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, age 95 years. Born in Central Lot 16, PEI, on November 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Roy E. MacLean and the late Isabel (MacGregor) MacLean.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, N.W. (Dutch) Underwood, sister Gwen, brothers Kenneth and Donald, daughter Joan, and nieces Judi Ouellette, Marilyn Large, Eleanor MacLeod and Gail MacLean Harris.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Jean Burch of Charlottetown, and nieces Isabel MacNutt of Halifax, Gloria MacLean of Long River, Heather Pratt of Charlottetown, and nephews Allan MacLean of Fredericton and Roy MacLean of Summerside, as well as numerous cousins and extended family.
Ottawa remained Marge's home for many decades and there she built her career on the Management Team of Giant Tiger Stores Limited, where she worked for many years until retirement. Then she relocated to Halifax in 2006 to be near her family. Marge will be forever remembered for her generosity, great sense of fun and love of family. For many years, she rented a summer vacation property on the Island where she would entertain her extended family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lot 16 United Cemetery or to a charity of your choice. Due to current restrictions, completed arrangements will be made later.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
