"Though she be but little, she is fierce!"
â William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream
The death occurred peacefully at Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Saturday, May 2nd, 2020 of Beryl Eileen MacDonald of Summerside and formerly of Glace Bay, aged 83 years. Beryl was born in Glace Bay to her late parents Henry and Rachel "Tootsie" MacDonald. Beloved wife of Stewart MacDonald and loving mother of Valerie MacDonald (Lewis Hinks) & Paul MacDonald. Also lovingly remembered by 1 grandson, Ian Hinks and numerous nieces and nephews.
Survived by her brothers Allister (Mae ) MacDonald, Johnny (Ruth) MacDonald, Earl (Heather) MacDonald, Angus MacDonald and sisters-in-law Tecie MacDonald, Gail MacDonald and Eleanor Francis (Don).
Beryl was predeceased by her infant son, her brothers Henry (Hopper) MacDonald and Neil MacDonald and her sister Valerie McDonald.
Beryl and Stewart moved a number of times during his career with the Air Force, making homes in Cold Lake, Alberta, and in France, Germany and Summerside.
Beryl enjoyed her career as a reporter and editor at Journal Pioneer, and the friendships she made during her time there. She maintained close connections with a long list of friends and family members; they will miss their regular phone chats.
Beryl will be remembered for her ability to eat an enormous "feed" of lobsters and her love of Dean Martin. Many will also recall that she was an excellent seamstress who made lovely clothes for family and friends, and her fondness for taking young visitors for adventures at Rainbow Valley. She loved to brag about her grandson, Ian. She loved to travel (despite having no sense of direction) and truly enjoyed trying new foods.
If you wish, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of PEI or Sjogren's Society of Canada. Thanks to Dr. Lauren Murphy and to Pierce Smith, RN, from Prince County Hospital ICU. Also, a big thank you to Dr. Paul Kelly and to Dan Heroux for their help to Beryl in looking after Stewart at home.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside. Interment to take place at a later date.

ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
