Obituary of Jennie Lois Dennis
The death occurred at the South Shore Villa on August 4th, 2024 of “Jennie” Lois Dennis, aged 89 years. Jennie was born in St. Eleanors to the late Leanard and Margaret Rogers. She is survived by brothers and sisters, Allan (Ollie) of Alberta, Olive (Ron) Statia of Ontario, Earl (Brenda) of Summerside, Wilma (Larry) Neal of Ontario, brothers-in-law Edgar (Janet) Dennis and Don Purich, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Keith and sisters Vera (Ernest) MacLure and Laura Purich.
Jennie was the eldest of seven and took on the roll of “mother” when her mother passed when she was a teenager. She cared for many children and when in her forty’s got her drivers license, bought a car and worked at the PCH in housekeeping. She cared for her father until he moved into a nursing home. In her sixty’s, she married Keith Dennis. They had near five years together before his passing.
Jennie was a member of the Central Street Christian Church where at the age of twelve she was baptised by Rev. William Bilson. For the last number of years, she lived with and was cared for by her brother, Earl and his wife. Jennie passed peacefully at South Shore Villa where she resided and was cared for by their caring staff.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home 245 Pope Road, Summerside. By personal request there will be no visiting hours or funeral service held. A graveside service will be held n People's Cemetery, Summerside on Saturday August 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Donations in Jennie’s memory can be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Central Street Christian Church Building Fund.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
