Sandra Thain

Obituary of Sandra Louise Thain

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sandra Louise (Spinney) Thain, lovingly known to all of her family as ‘Mom’, on July 20th, 2024.  She was a cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who left a mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born on November 3rd, 1939, Sandra was a soft spoken and caring soul who dedicated her life to her family.  She was known for her love of company, always welcoming family with open arms and lots of hugs and kisses.  Her presence was a source of comfort and strength to her family.

Upon graduating from the Grace Maturity Hospital (Halifax, NS) in the spring of 1959, Sandra had a fulfilling career as a nurse, beginning in 1959-1971 as a Grace Grad Maternity Nurse and ending her career from 1972-2005 as a Ward Clerk on the surgical floor of Prince County Hospital where her compassionate nature and commitment to caring for others shone bright.

She was an avid Bingo player, often jokingly telling her family she was going to important ‘meetings’ rather than Bingo.  Despite her meek and mild nature, she also respectfully loved the competitiveness of a good card game.

Pre-deceased by her father, Earle Winfred Spinney, her mother, Flora May (Morse) Spinney, her sisters, Kris Allen and Mona Ryer, her grandson, Jonathon Peters, and her husband, James Thain.  She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and family unity.  Survived by her sister, Delma Newman and her children, Kym Thain, Lisa (John) Peters, Jim (Jane) Thain, Steven (Stacy) Thain, Susan (Eddie) Thain-Trail, Tashia (Vernon) MacLeod, 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, that will carry her memory in their hearts forever.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all health care providers who helped with her health care and also her neighbors who were so kind to her and the family.  By Sandra’s request, the family will hold a private memorial at their own discretion.  Her remains will rest in Nictaux, NS where her roots began.

Sandra will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the countless lives she has touched and the beautiful memories she left us with.  As God granted her wings, our angel on earth will now watch over us from heaven.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in support to her grandson Danny MacLeod who is currently fighting his own battle with cancer.  The donations can be e-transferred directly to Danny at iosos1445@hotmail.com
