Obituary of David Alexander MacDonald

The family of David Alexander “Dave” MacDonald, 71, is sad to announce his passing on Sunday, July 7, 2024 in the palliative care ward of the Community Hospital in O’Leary. Son of the late D. Alex and Kay MacDonald, he was born in Summerside, PE.

Dave is survived by Florence “Flo” (Trainor), his wife of 48 years, son Jonathan, and daughter Kate. In his last days, he was surrounded and cared for by his siblings: Roberta (Paul Heer), Danny (Jean), Peter (Karen), Rod (Karen), Joanne (the late John Postma), Michael (Jennifer), Pam (Tom Wright), Neil (Barb), and Kathy (Mark O’Rourke). He is predeceased by his brother Donald.

Dave worked in the family business, D Alex MacDonald Ford dealership, for more than 50 years. His lifelong love of cars and motorcycles served him well in his role as parts manager. He retired in 2022 but continued to work on passion projects in his garage.

Known for being a tease, his dry sense of humour protected a kind heart. He was ready to help anyone, whether friend or stranger. In his youth, he joined the Army Reserves, and later, served as an auxiliary RCMP officer for 25 years.

An avid card player, he enjoyed poker nights and organized crib tournaments at the Wing. He read continuously, mowed the lawn daily, never suffered a spot on any vehicle he owned, and was a source of great love to those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday evening from 5 - 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Paul’s Church on Friday July 12th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Interred to take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Summerside. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Prince County Hospital Foundation.
