Obituary of James Cecil McClean

It is with heavy hearts we share that our father, James (Jim) Cecil McClean, aged 88 years, passed away at home in Summerside on July 2, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pauline (Gallant), his three daughters Kathleen (Peter), Maureen (Gord), Kelly and his three wonderful grandchildren, Ruby, Edward and Stella.

Born September 30, 1935, in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, Dad came to Canada in his early 20’s and made this his home. A natural-born storyteller, his early years in Ireland were the fodder for many of his tales. If you met Dad even once, you have heard some of these! His 25-yr career in the RCAF as an Airframe Technician on the Argus was another favourite topic; he loved that plane.

Dad loved a good laugh, a good dog, all music (especially his Irish folk music), Indy/Formula 1 racing and a well poured beer. He was a multi-talented artist and craftsman; he always had his camera in hand and a couple of model boat or woodcarving projects on the go. We are grateful to have these pieces of him with us always.

We extend our deepest thanks to his team of dedicated caregivers, his wonderful neighbours, and the Summerside Home Care team. He would not have been able to stay home on his own terms without this compassionate group of people.

A remembrance of a life well-lived will be held at a later date.

And, as Dad always asked when dropping us at church every Sunday, if you could “say a prayer for him”, we know he would appreciate it very much.
