Obituary of Darrel Dwayne McLean
The death occurred peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, P.E.I. on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 of Darrel Dwayne McLean of Emerald, PEI, aged 69 years. Darrel was born in Minto, NB to the late Willis & Marion (Tindis) McLean.
Beloved husband of Collene (Gallant) McLean and loving father of Darren (Tara) McLean, Norma Lee McLean (John Hutcheson), Lindsey (Mike) Laveen and Dallas McLean. Loving grandfather to Jake, Marley, Drak, Ethan, Joseph, Dustan, Jackson, Amelia, Sammy, Abby and Aiden.
Survived by his brothers Ralph (Fern) McLean and Weldon McLean, sisters Darlene McLean and Carolynn Kelly and several nieces and nephews.
Darrel was predeceased by a granddaughter Shalynn and siblings Jean, Geraldine, Berton, Gordon, Norman, Hilda (Ivory) Small and Lorna Kincade.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Friday May 10th, where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1:00p.m. Memorial donations in Darrel’s memory can be made directly to the Children Wish Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society. Visiting hours on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
