Obituary of Leo Joseph Shields

PLease note that the funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m.on Wednesday August 7th at St. Paul's Church and visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 p.m.
The death occurred peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Andrews of Summerside on Saturday, April 6th, 2024 of Leo Joseph Shields of Summerside, P.E.I., aged 100 years. Leo was born in Summerside to the late James and Margaret Shields (Thibodeau).
Beloved husband of the late Anita (Blacquiere) Shields and loving father of Carolyn (Ron) Perry, Marilyn (Ron) Gallant, Kirk (Lisa) Handrahan, and Joe (Christine) Handrahan. Also lovingly remembered by his 9 grandchildren, Jason, Rod, Michelle, Renae, Christa, Angela, Noelle, Alysha, Emily, 7 great-grandchildren, Will, Joel, Cowen, Ayslin, Alex, Ronin and Declan.
Survived by his sister-in-law Geralda Brown and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his brothers, George, Fred, and sisters Fanny, Carrie, Mary, and Margaret.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Wednesday August 7, 2024 where a funeral mass will be held at St. Paul's Church, Summerside at 10:30 a.m. Intermemt to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial donations in Leo’s memory can be made directly to the Prince County Hospital Foundation or St. Paul’s Church. Visiting hours on Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 p.m.
ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
