I only heard of Bob's passing last evening when Dave Elms was being interviewed on NTV about the Corner Brook Winter Carnival. He paid tribute to Bob as one of the enthusiastic founders of the event. Despite knowing that Bob was getting up in years, I was shocked and saddening to hear of his passing. Bob was larger than life. I met Bob through skiing when he was living in Corner Brook. When he moved out to the Port au Port Peninsula late in his career, we often crossed paths and chatted. One day he called me and out of the blue he said, "Graham, are you interested in walking the railway tracks to Corner Brook. I always wanted to do it and I want someone to go with me." I tentatively accepted the invitation, but unfortunately we could never seem to make it happen. I always regretted that it didn't happened. It would have been two days of stories and laughter. My condolences to the family. Bob was a one of a kind and he will be missed, but his stories, jokes and music will live on.

I received the call this evening informing me of Bob’s passing and I am heartsick. There is so much to say. Bob was a mentor to me and took time and patience to teach me the bagpipes. The evenings were spent learning the pipes but the majority of the time was spent laughing at the endless supply of stories. He was a presence that was felt by everyone; you knew when he was in a room with you. His laugh was always the giveaway! No mistaking Bob there. And a few drams always multiplied the volume and frequency. The world is certainly a little more empty with his passing, but his memory and legacy will live eternally. Our sincerest condolences to Dorothy and family. Know that he was loved and respected. Sandra and Eric Nippard, Kippens, NL

On behalf of the Gower Community Band, I offer our condolences to the family of "Dr. Bob". Bob wrote an incredible number of band arrangements, and we have been fortunate enough to play many of them. In fact, there's a whole drawer in one of our filing cabinets dedicated to arrangements and compositions by Bob. He often played with us at a rehearsal when he was in town, and his boisterous laugh was infectious, bringing joy to the room every time he was there. We'll certainly miss him.
On a personal note, I had lunch with Bob and Edsel Bonnell a few times, and they were both a delight to watch. They would take turns eliciting great laughs from each other as they told stories and relived memories, and I was privileged to be in their company. I spoke on the phone with Bob on October 10th, to find out more about one of his arrangements that we played in a concert on October 14th and to make sure I had his bio information right. He was always a delight, and I'll miss him.

I was so sorry to hear of Dr MacLeod’s recent passing. He was always someone I admired as a young man growing up in Corner Brook. He had many talents and a wonderful way with everyone he met. When I was a university student I had a call from the Student Employment Centre that someone wanted to hire a student for a couple of days to do some “ garden work”. It turns out Dr. Bob wanted someone to help him to plant potatoes at his cabin. I don’t think I ever laughed so hard at any other job I have ever done. - he even brought a lunch for the two of us. As I got older I realized he probably didn’t need anyone to help him with this small job - I think he just wanted to give a student a couple of days work.
My sincere condolences to the MacLeod family.

To the entire Dr. Bob MacLeod Family
While the last post has sounded for WO1 Robert William MacLeod, his music, kindness, and dedication will live on in his legacy through his C.L.B. service and written marches. For me he was a great friend, supporter and one who inspired me to carry on my C.L.B. service and do my best to Fight the Good Fight. To his family I want to express my personal condolences for you have shared time with a wonderful Christian soldier. It is my prayer that he will rest in peace and one day rise in glory.

To Dorothy(Toots), Margie Ann and Bob ,
I met Bob when he and Toots were neighbours of my sister,Valerie, and brother in law Paul, in Seven Mile Bay. What a delight he was- always so exuberant and kind to everyone he encountered- great sense of humour and welcoming to all.
Sincere condolences to you all as you go through these difficult times.
Sincerely,

The first time I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Macleod was when he was with the Newfoundland marching band in the 1986 Grey Cup parade. His old high school buddy, Garry Watson (my recently deceased husband), picked him up at the airport. In the car, Garry asked after Bob’s mother. Bob’s reply was “oh my mudder, she’s worth the cash”. I came to treasure that old Newfie expression. It certainly applies to dear Bob Macleod.

It is with sadness that I learned of the passing of my dear friend Bob MacLeod. He was a tremendous supporter of mine as I am a clarinetist, band and orchestra director. My favourite memory of Bob was of him showing up to the Herdman Collegiate Wind Symphony play-athon in the 1980s with his bagpipes and an arrangement of Amazing Grace for band, which we performed, Bob as soloist. It was absolutely wonderful. At my recommendation, he acquired a Kaspar clarinet mouthpiece, something that is rare that enhanced his clarinet playing. I will miss his joy and exuberance for life. Rest in peace, Bob.

I remember Bob from his many years in the community band in Corner Brook. I was not in the band myself but I watched many a performance and the joy he felt in sharing music with fellow musicians and the audience was evident in every one of them. My condolences to the family and were my father still with us today I am sure that he, too, would be very saddened by the loss.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
