*******************UPDATES******************** Celebration of LIfe Thursday July 18th, 2024 from 7 - 9 p.m.
The death occurred peacefully at the Atlantic Baptist Nursing Home on Saturday, September 16, 2023, of Gladys “Ione” Wood (nee Wright) from North Tryon, formerly of South Freetown. Born on May 11, 1938, Ione was the loving daughter/step-daughter of the late Olive (nee Drummond) and Thorne Affleck. She will be greatly missed by her devoted husband George Wood. Loving Mom and Mother-in-law of Kent (Julie) Wood, Noelle (Chris) Norton, and Crystal (Richard) Carr. Proud Grams of Joel (Laura) Wood; Brett (Marise) Wood; Elizabeth, Blake and Greer Norton; and Joelle and Lucas Carr. Adoring Great-Grams of Allie Booth and Cooper Wood. Lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Joann (Earle) MacDonald and her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her cherished son, Ashley Wood; her sisters-in-law Joyce Stark and Verna Slysz; and her brothers-in-law Harry Stark and Garth Wood. Also predeceased by her father Kenneth Wright.
Ione especially loved her first cousins who were like siblings for her, many who grew up with her on Drummond Road. She was a devoted member of South Shore United Church and was active in the local UCW and her community. Flowers and gardening were Ione’s passion. She also loved playing cards, the theatre, and Thursday breakfasts as well as her visits with Annie Lee and Julia. She enjoyed her summers with friends and family at the cottage in Happy Acre and loved her winters in Florida with family - especially the garage sales and baseball games.
Special thanks to the staff at Atlantic Baptist for the exceptional care provided.
Donations in Ione’s memory may be made to Camp Abegweit (campabegweit.ca). A Celebration of Life will be held on Thuraday July 18, 2024 at the Crapaud Gospel Hall from 7-9 p.m.
ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
