Obituary of Roy Nelson Peters
With heavy hearts, the family of MWO Roy N. Peters announce his passing at Clinton View Lodge on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 a the age of 93.
Roy was born on Brier Island, Nova Scotia, on August 25, 1929, to his late parents Percy and Bernice Peters. Although he grew up in Westport, he would eventually begin fishing with his uncle across the harbour in Freeport, NS He later decided to enlist with the Canadian Air Force and attended basic traing in Cornwallis and Greenwood, NS. Following this, he was posted to Germany for two years and as he left, he promised his sweetheart Betty that he would marry her upon his return. He and Betty E. Welch were married in Halifax, NS on July 4 1955. Two children, David and Heather would soon follow, after a posting to Summerside, PE. Several postings later, they would eventually retire in Greenwood, NS and Summerside PE. Betty passed on August 10, 2019. They were married 64 years.
Roy was an avid hunter, golfer, and country music guitar player. He also loved camping and working in his garage.
Left to mourn Roy's passing are his son and daughter, David (Belinda) and Heather, his grandchildren, Jarrad (Cassie) and Justin (Julie), Nicole (Frank) and Kimberly (Aaron) and his great grandchildren, Jackson, Beckett, Kesler, Charlotte, Abigail and Boden. We will all miss his love of family.
A celebration of life and cemetery service will take place at a later date.
Roy now goes to walk that part of Lighthouse Road to meet Betty for a final time as they had walked so many times, so long ago. A true love story.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
