Obituary of Edith Gail Smith
The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Wednesday June 14th, 2023 of Edith (nee Hickey) Smith of Summerside, P.E.I. aged 73 years. Edith was born in Summerside to the late Charles and Marion (Stewart) Hickey. Beloved wife of the late Sonny Smith and loving mother of Kevin (Carla), Kathy (Chris) Brown and Kendra (Andrew) Morrison. Also lovingly remembered by her 9 grandchildren: Keisha, Ethan, Kaylyn, Emma, Kayden, Kaleb, Cassidy, Kennedy and Ryan, her great grandchildren Mason, Charlie and Spencer.
Survived by her brothers and sister: Barbara (Delmar) Connick, Darlene Walsh, Norma Dougherty, Phyllis (Doug), Kendall Hickey, Rodney (Cathy), Paula Pollen and Scott (Allison). Predeceased by her sister Rhea Hickey, brothers in-law Bud Dougherty, Donnie Walsh and Keith Pollen.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Tuesday, June 20th, 2023 where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment to take place in Floral Hills Memorial Garden. Memorial donations in Edith’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
