Obituary of William Joseph Poirier
The death occurred peacefully at Clinton View Lodge, Clinton P.E.I. on Sunday June 4, 2023 of William "Willie" Joseph Poirier of Le Chez-Nous, Wellington P.E.I and formerly of Miscouche in his 100th year. Willie was born in St. Nicholas P.E.I. to the late Arsene and Sophie Poirier. Beloved husband of the late Marie Poirier (DesRoches) and loving stepfather of Roger (Peg) DesRoches, Ruth (John) Gillis, Leigh (Donna) DesRoches, Lois (Brian) Praught, Dianne (Peter) Whitlock, Deborah (George) Morgan.
Also lovingly remembered by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Willie was the last surviving member of his family, predeceased by his brothers and sisters Felix, Martin, Margaret, Ursule, Theresa, and Emmanuel.
Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Thursday June 8, 2023 then to St. John the Baptist for a funeral mass at 11:00 am. Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Donations in Willie's memory to St. John the Baptist Church Cemetery would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
