Obituary of Eric Carmen Skerry
The death occurred peacefully at his late residence on May 03, 2023 of Eric Skerry of Summerside aged 82 years. Eric was born in Lot 16 to his late parents George and Carrie (Broome) Skerry. Loving father to George and Carolyn of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by granddaughter Crispen Drysdale and great-grandchildren Porter and Sadie. Fondly remembered by numerous cousins on PEI, Nantucket Island, Massachusetts and elsewhere. Also remembered by numerous friends, neighbours and fellow Commercial Fishermen.
Eric was involved in the commercial fishing industry for decades out of Malpeque Harbour and was still excited by the prospect of the opening of the spring lobster season even during the last week of his life. He was always looking out the window to get an idea of the weather and wind direction.
Eric was predeceased by his parents and daughter-in-law Kathy. A special thanks to the Summerside Home Care team who provide amazing support to seniors in our community. Also to be mentioned is Dr. Phelan who he thought a lot of and the PCH staff.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside. No visitation or funeral service by personal request. Interment to take place at a later date. Donations in Eric’s memory to the Heart and Stroke foundation would be greatly appreciated.
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
