Obituary of Gertrude Reah Campbell
The death occurred peacefully with family by her side at Andrew’s of Summerside on Friday April 21st, 2023 of Gertrude Reah Campbell (Howatt) of Summerside, P.E.I., aged 89 years. Gertrude was born in Carleton Siding, P.E.I. to the late Frank and Mildred Howatt (Clark).
Beloved wife of the late Windsor Campbell and loving mother of Sandra (Leo) DesRoches, Brian (Janet), Barry (Liz), Valerie (Bob-deceased) Meads, Shelley Hartlen (Jeff McLellan). Remembered by her 7 grandchildren Scott, Ryan, Melissa, Vanessa, Alyson, Holly, Hayley and their partners, and her 2 great grandchildren Sophie and Macie.
Survived by her brother Cooke Howatt, sisters Elva (John) Ahearn, Julie Howatt and numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her sister Catherine (Dean) Bell and sister in-law Frances Howatt.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Wednesday April 26th where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment to take place in People’s Cemetery, Summerside at a later date. Memorial donations in Gertrude's memory to the PEI Alzheimer’s Association would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
