Obituary of Cal Callaghan
With heavy hearts, the family of James Louis (Cal) Callaghan announce his sudden passing at the age of 83 years at his home in Summerside, PEI on April 21, 2023.
Cal was the first-born of John James and Mary Helen (Gauthier) Callaghan. He had an adventurous heart and deep roots. He played hard and worked hard. He loved laughter, mischief, and learning new things. He loved his career in the Air Force which took him all over the world and he made life-long friends wherever he went. But his home and his heart were forever in PEI.
Preceding him in death was his greatest love, Mary Osmond-Callaghan, his parents named above, his younger brother and sister-in-law Kenny and Shirley Callaghan, and his stepdaughter Pam Cooper.
He is survived by his children, Sandra (Dale) Greep, Nancy Callaghan (Christian Morrissette), Barbara Callaghan, and Stephen Callaghan and his stepchildren Terry (Judy) Osmond, Arthur Cooper, Duane (Cathie) Osmond, and Paula (Paul) Wolfe. As well as his siblings George (Alida) Callaghan and Betty Hynes. Also feeling the loss are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friends. He will be greatly missed as well by the mother of his children, Kaye Bysouth and his dear companion and friend Lorraine Carr.
Cal is resting peacefully and entrusted to the care of East Prince funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside. Funeral Service will be held in the East Prince Funeral Home Chapel on May 3, 2023 at 2:00pm. Following which, the Interment will take place at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Valley. Visiting hours on May 2, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Cal would be honored to have memorial donations in lieu of flowers made to Prince County Hospital Foundation. In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
