Obituary of Paul Edward Steele

The family of Paul Edward Steele, age 67, is deeply saddened to announce his death after a brief illness at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre in Charlottetown on April 21, 2023, with his beloved partner and soul mate, Heather by his side.

Paul grew up in Summerside, son of the late Clarence and Faustina (Gaudet) Steele. Paul is survived by his loving wife Heather (MacLellan) Steele; siblings: John (Gladys), Jimmy (Roma), Mary (Harvey, deceased) and Joey (Vicki). Survived also by his father- in- law, Reg MacLellan (Marjorie, deceased); sisters- in- law: Theresa Burke, Ellen Ridgeway (Lorna), Paula Donnelly; brother- in- law, Billy MacLellan (Shelley). Paul will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Paul was predeceased by his parents and sister Patricia (John Arsenault), nephews Michael and David, and a niece Melanie.

Paul passed on his passion for learning while teaching at Charlottetown Rural, Colonel Gray, St. Jean Elementary, Birchwood and Bluefield High Schools.

Paul enjoyed sports at an early age growing up in Summerside. Paul graduated from Summerside High where he was a member of a number of championship teams. Paul studied at St. Francis Xavier University, then onto the University of Saskatchewan ( BEd. and Master of Science). Paul began his teaching in Saskatchewan before returning to PEI to teach for 33 years. Paul volunteered as a coach in many sports and enjoyed his time at Bluefield and UPEI as well as leading provincial teams to regional and national soccer championships. Paul was also involved as a Master Coarse Facilitator in the National Coaching Certification Program for over 20 years.

Paul loved to travel, play golf with his friends, be with family and the people he loved. He enjoyed his Acadian roots, joie de vivre, good food, music and art. Most of all Paul loved Heather and their days on the beach, quiet evenings with their pets, and just being with each other. Paul’s family and friends will forever remember Paul’s laughter, sharp wit, and warm smile.

The family wish to thank Dr. Lecours and the staff of the Provincial Palliative Care Centre for their compassion and care to Paul.

Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home 245 Pope Road, Summerside PE. No visitation or funeral, by request. Interment later in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Summerside, PEI. Online condolences may be posted at epfuneral.ca.

In lieu of flowers donations in Paul’s memory may be made to PEI Humane Society. A celebration of life will be held at the Belvedere Golf Club April  26, 2023 from 2pm – 5 pm.
