Obituary of Claire Marie Anita Bernard

Age 85, passed away peacefully as the sun was setting, at Summerset Manor, surrounded by loved ones who came from near and far to say goodbye to their loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Born April 22 1937 in a small farmhouse in Oyster Bed Bridge, Claire, the daughter of Anaclet and Lucy Gallant, lived for her first nine years there before moving to another family farm in Union Corner.  This was her home until she met Adrien Bernard who became her husband and friend for 64 years.  Adrien was in the Air Force so they moved from base to base and raised their four children, Maurice, Claude, Paul, and Joyce. After Adrien's retirement, he and Claire resided in Summerside where Claire enjoyed her grandchildren, painting, handicrafts. playing cards with her relatives and walking the trails with Adrien.

   

Lovingly known as mémé to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Claire is survived by her husband of 64 years Adrien, her three sons Maurice, Claude (Monica). Paul and her daughter Joyce (Candace), her grandchildren Neil (Wendy) Wade (Megan) and their mother Barb, Courtney, Melissa (Brad), Nicholas (Jess), Madison and their mother Shelley, Katelyn, Kyle (Melissa) and their father Robbie, Nathanael (Luke) as well as her four adorable great grandchildren Lilly, Cooper, Brooke and Lotty.

   

She is survived by her brother Leonard and her sisters Esther and Rose and her in laws Sr Hermine, Amand (Marie) Maria, Leona, Marguerite, Cecile and Florence

   

She is predeased by her brothers, Fr Edmond, Isidore, Raymond, her sister Zelica and her in laws Ernest, Rita, Eufrida, Marquerite, Leonce, Ronald, Pat, Richard, Robert, and Joe

   

The family of Claire would like to express their sincere thanks to the caregivers of Summerset Manor, where she was cared for in her last years.  They were her second Family and the love they showed her during the time she lived there and especially in her last week here on earth,  has deeply touched  the hearts of her family.

   

A family service will be held at East Prince Funeral Home to celebrate Claire's life. The family has requested a private service by invitation only. A family Interrment service will take place near her family home at a later date. Donations in memory of Claire may be made to either the Summerset Manor Recreation Fund or Equipment Fund.
