Obituary of Amy Winnifred Palmer
The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Tuesday January 31st, 2023 of Amy Winnifred Palmer (nee Paynter) of Kensington and formerly of Freetown, P.E.I., aged 70 years. Amy was born in Summerside to the late Fred and Lucy Paynter (nee Pickering). Loving mother of Jason Smits and Melissa Smits. Also lovingly remembered by her 2 grandchildren Sunny and Sam Smits.
Survived by her sisters Jean (Sheldon) Neill and Eva Mullin, sister in-law Honor Paynter, niece Karen Paynter and nephews John Paynter, Blair, Trevor, Robbie and Garth Neill and M.J. Mullin.
Predeceased by her brother Leonard Paynter.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Tuesday February 7th, 2023 where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 3:00 p.m. Interment to take place in the Freetown Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Amy’s memory to Community Mental Health Outreach would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hour on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
