Obituary of George Arthur Lyle
George Arthur Lyle passed away peacefully on December 26, 2022 at Prince County Hospital in Summerside, PE, Canada. George was born in Summerside in 1939 to Harold and Matilda (Owen) Lyle.
He practiced law as a general practitioner from October 1978 in the Province of Prince Edward Island and prior to that held various positions with the Guaranty Trust Company of Canada. He was a graduate of the University of Ottawa Law School and a certificate program in Trust Business from Queens University. During the period of his private practice of law in the Province of Prince Edward Island he held the position of Commissioner on the Prince Edward Island Human Rights Commission, Chairperson of the PEI Labour Relations Board and was a past President of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island and the PEI branch of the Canadian Bar Association.
George was a devoted member of the Trinity United Church Summerside, and the Grand Lodge of PEI. He had a strong community involvement through his support of many organizations and volunteerism in Summerside, and throughout Prince Edward Island.
George is survived by his wife, Sandra Dunn, his four children, and brother Edwin, as well as numerous other family members and friends. As requested by George, there will be no visitation or public service. In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
