Obituary of Marchbank, John " Jack " Cairns
The death occurred suddenly at his late residence on Wednesday , July 12th , 2006 of John 'Jack' Cairns Marchbank of New Annan, aged 89 years. Jack was born in New Annan, P.E.I. on December 18th , 1916 to his parents,the late Percy & Maye ( nee Cairns ) Marchbank.
Beloved husband of Louise ( nee Johnson ) Marchbank and also his first wife , the late Ruby ( nee Cousins ) Marchbank.
Loving father of Garth ( Verena Matthew ) of New Annan and step-father of Adele ( David ) Gillis of Stratford and James ( Connie ) Marchbank of Linkletter Rd. Also lovingly remembered by his sister Mary ( Ken ) MacLean of S'side,his daughter-in-law Nancy Marchbank of New Annan,his 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and his brother-in-law Robert Hogg of Clinton.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son Robert,his daughter Myrna in infancy and his sisters Ernestine Scott-Connell and Marjorie Cairns.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Saturday, then to Kensington United Church for funeral service at 10:30 A.M. . Following cremation,interment to take place in the North Bedeque Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers , memorial donation's in Jack's memory to the North Bedeque Cemetery Fund or the A.L.S. Society would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Friday, 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 P.M. .

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
