Obituary of Martin, Joseph Ferdinand " Fred "
The death occurred peacefully & surrounded by his family at the Wedgewood Manor, Summerside on Sunday, April 15th , 2007 of Joseph Ferdinand 'Fred' Martin , formerly of Miscouche , aged 85 years. Fred was born in Duvar ,
P.E.I. on August 2nd , 1921 to his parents, the late Paul & Rose ( nee Gallant ) Martin. Veteran of World War II . Beloved husband of the late Catherine ( Gow ) and also his second wife, the late Lucy Hitchcock .
Loving father of Bill ( Josette ) of S'side, Frank ( Dorothy ) of S'side, Fred ( Gisele ) of Maximeville ,Jim of Daysland, Alta. and Jerry ( Judy ) of S'side. Also lovingly remembered by his 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and his step-children Robert, Reginald and Betty Hitchcock .
Besides his parents and his wives , Fred was predeceased by his brother Adrian and his sister Bernice.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home , 245 Pope Rd.,Summerside until Wednesday, April 18th then to St. John the Baptist Church, Miscouche for funeral mass at 10:30 AM . Interment to take place at a later date in the church cemetery. Memorial donations in Fred's memory to St. John the Baptist Church Restoration Fund or the Wedgewood Manor Equipment Fund would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Tuesday , 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. .
Comrades of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 18, Miscouche will hold a Service of Remembrance at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 6:45 p.m. .
ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
