Obituary of Cardwell, Patrick Joseph
Cardwell : The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by his family on
Thursday, August 2nd , 2007 of Patrick Joseph Cardwell of Summerset Manor and
formerly of 109 Stafford Estates, Summerside , aged 84 years. A veteran of WW 11. Patrick was born on October 7, 1922 in Montreal to his parents, the late Charles and Mary (Downey) Cardwell. Both parents immigrated from County Downe, Ireland.
Beloved husband of Lorena (MacLellan/Gillis) Cardwell and predeceased by his first wife Mary (McAllar) Cardwell.. Loving father of Sharon (Tom) Simon, Manchester, NH; Shane (Tania) Cardwell, Virginia Beach, Va; Sandra Cardwell, Summerside; and step-father of Mary Farris (Gary Dunphy), Summerside; Marlene (Warren) Ellis, O'Leary; Joe (Barb) Gillis, Winsloe; Kathy (Don) Aitken, Winsloe; and Rob (Barb) Gillis, Indian River. Loving grampy of Callie, Connor, Chance, Becky, Jarrett, Jamie, Michael, Josh, Andrew, Brody, Sarah, Breann, Cameron and Brandon. Also lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Raymond (Kay) McAllar, Ottawa, Barbara Marchbank, Cornwall, PE; Pearl McAllar, Brae, PE; Reg (Robbie) MacLellan, Summerside, Evelyn (Lou) Arsenault, Carlisle, On, Theresa McQuaid, Hamilton On. and Phyllis MacLellan, Hamilton On.
He was the last surviving member of his family, predeceased by brothers
Lockland, Charles and Leo and by his sisters Mary (Stanley) Carruthers and 4 preschool age sisters having died during the flu epidemic following WW 1.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Monday, then to St. Paul's Church Summerside for funeral mass at 10:30 am. Visiting hours on Sunday 6-9 pm only. Interment to take place in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, Brae P.E.I. at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Patrick's memory to St. Paul's Cemetery Fund, Summerset Manor Equipment Fund or to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Comrades of George R. Pearkes Branch #5 Royal Canadian Legion will gather at the funeral home for prayers for their late comrade at 5:45 pm on Sunday. In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
