Obituary of Gallant, Elmira Mary
The death occurred peacefully at the Summerset Manor ,Summerside on Thursday, May 8th , 2008 of Elmira Mary Gallant ( nee Gallant ) of Summerside and formerly of Tignish & Kinkora, aged 84 years. Elmira was born on May 11th , 1923 in Alberton , P.E.I. to her late parents Joseph & Denise Gallant .
Beloved wife of the late Phillip Gallant & loving mother of Cathy ( Edward )Gaudet , Eli ( Linda ), Norman ( Linda ) all of Summerside and Theresa ( Randy ) Bull of Halifax, N.S.. Also lovingly remembered by her 7 grandchildren Tracy ( Leon ) Perry, Tina ( Chris ) Thorne, April ( Robert ) Wall, Shawn, Melissa,Spencer & Jordan Gallant, her 4 great-grandchildren Dante Perry, Keegan Perry,Hope Reeves & Skye Thorne. Survived by her sisters Jeanette & Phyllis Handrahan of Tignish, her sisters-in-law Alice Perry of Peterville, Rita Gallant of Tignish, Anne Marie Gallant of Tignish & Denise DesRoche of Tignish.
Besides her parents & her husband, Elmira was predeceased by her children Seymore & Ida in infancy, her brothers Jude, Eloi & Gerry Gallant and her sisters Alma Ellsworth & Delima ( Ernest ) Gallant.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Saturday, then to St. Paul's Church, S'side for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. . Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Visiting hours on Friday, 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. . Memorial donations in Elmira's memory to the Summerset Manor Equipment Fund would be greatly appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
