Obituary of Gallant, Ruth Helen
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by her family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside on Thursday, October 16th , 2008 of Ruth Helen Gallant ( nee Finnan ) of Summerside, P.E.I. , aged 71 years. Ruth was born on June 20th , 1937 in Howlan, P.E.I. to her late parents, Anthony & Ursula ( nee Doiron ) Finnan.
Beloved wife of Camillus Gallant and loving mother of Mike 'Pinky' ( Patricia ) of S'side, Pat ( Peggy ) of Saint John, N.B., Joe of S'side, Darren of Edmonton, Ab., Terry ( Bea ) of S'side, Kenny ( Tracie ) of S'side, Samantha Gallant of Halifax, N.S. , Jennifer Gallant ( Allan Mantova ) of Australia & daughter-in-law Angie Gallant of S'side. Also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Bradley, Brett, Alex, Melissa, Megan, Jamal, Britney, Sasha, Lucas and Kennedy. Survived by her sisters Patricia Pineau ( Kenny Dunville ) of S'side, Pauline Finnan ( Liz Fitzpatrick ) of Scarborough, On. & Alitha Richard of Scarborough, On., her brother Albert Finnan of Hamilton On., her brother-in-law Ralph ( Amelia ) Gallant & sisters-in-law Laurinda Myers & Regrata O'Brien.
Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her daughter Cindy at birth and by her son Jimmy in infancy, her daughter-in-law Shelly, her sister-in-law Millicent Jeffrey and her brothers-in-law Russell Jeffrey, Eddie Myers, Jarvis O'Brien & Aubin Richard.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road,Summerside until Saturday, then to St. Paul's Church, S'side for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. . Interment to take place in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ruth's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society ,the Oncology Unit of the Prince County Hospital or the Boy's & Girl's Club of S'side would be greatly appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
