Obituary of Silk, Leonard Nelson
?The death occurred suddenly with his loving family by his side at the Summerset Manor, Summerside on Monday , December 22nd, 2008 of Leonard Nelson Silk of Summerside and formerly of St. Stephen, N.B.,aged 84 years. Leonard was born on May 2nd , 1924 in Coles Island, N.B. to his late parents, Walter & Bessie Mae ( nee Phillips ) Silk .
Beloved husband of Sara 'Sally' ( nee Nixon ) and loving father of Gwendlyn 'Dolly' Silk of S'side, Dana ( Jerome ) of Ottawa, Ont., Dan and David both of Vancover, B.C. Also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Sarah ( Justin ) Rogers of S'side, Amanda ( Ben ) Murphy of Miscouche & Dana Scherf-Silk of Kamloops, B.C., his 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Survived by his sisters Norma Hay of Coles Island, N.B. and Betty Stevens of Codys, N.B..
Besides his parents , Leonard was predeceased by his sister Primrose Lewis and brothers Cardiff & Emery.
Following cremation, a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 16th, 2009 at the East Prince Funeral Home Chapel, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, P.E.I. at 11:00 a.m.. Memorial donations in Leonard's memory to the Summerset Manor Equipment Fund or the Alzheimer Society of P.E.I. would be greatly appreciated. No visiting hours by personal request .

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
