Obituary of Gallant, Joseph Augustus " Gussie "
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside on Wednesday, December 4th , 2013 of Joseph Augustus " Gussie " Gallant of Summerside, P.E.I., aged 89 years. Gussie was born on October 18th, 1924 in Mont Carmel, P.E.I. to his late parents Emmanuel and Gertrude ( nee Arsenault ) Gallant.
Beloved husband of Agnes Gallant and loving father of Elmer ( Marlene ) of Toronto, ON., Judy ( Kenny ) Blacquiere of Hamilton, ON., Mannie of St. Nicholas, Gloria ( Dennis ) Gallant of Summerside, Michael ( Sylvia ) of St. Nicholas and Christine ( Douglas ) Simmons of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Survived by his sister-in-law Juanita Gallant of Sackville, N.S..
Besides his parents, Gussie was predeceased by his grandson Darryl Blacquiere and the following brothers and sisters : Fidele, Azade, Mary Louise Peters, Adeline ( Albin ) Blacquiere, Melvina Richard, Lottie Elliot, Theresa MacKay, Willie, Edmond, Theophile, Lucie ( Arthur ) DesRoches, Bill, and Rita Sangster.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Saturday, December 7th , then to St. John the Baptist Church, Miscouche for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m.. Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Memorial donations in Gussie's memory to the Prince County Hospital Foundation or the Summerset Manor Equipment Fund would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Friday, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 18, Miscouche will hold a Service of Remembrance at the funeral home on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m..

ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
