Kenneth Gallant Obituary
Kenneth Gallant – With family by his side, the death occurred peacefully at the Summerset Manor on Saturday, August 29, 2026, of Joseph Henry Kenneth Gallant of Summerside, aged 84 years. Born in Mont Carmel, he was the eldest son of the late Dorothy and Gus Gallant. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Bertha (Bulger).
He is survived by 3 daughters: Kendra (Trent) Williams of Summerside, Angela Gallant (Marc Melanson) of Tantallon and Karla (Mark) McGaraughty of Ottawa; grandchildren Hannah Raby (Brennan) and Naomi Williams, Zachary and Alexander Melanson and Tara and Kenneth McGaraughty. He is also survived by siblings, Yvonne, Leonard (Phyllis), Raymond (Elizabeth) and Linda (Hartland Jessome), numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Wilfred and several in-laws.
Kenneth was happiest with a houseful of family and friends. He was a gentle soul who had a quiet demeaner and a great sense of pride for his family. A hard working man who found joy in simple pleasures—bar clamming, long walks on the shore, working the land and savoring his daily glass (or two) of wine. Those close to him always knew where to find the treasured bottled bar clams down in the cold room.
Being the only man in a family of 5, he couldn’t get many words in! He was not a worrier; he left that daunting task to his wife, who was very good at it. Kenneth loved his radio, TV and the Journal Pioneer, always tuning in for the weather and death notices. He became an accurate weather forecaster and that came in handy when predicting anticipated school closures.
Kenneth studied Agriculture in Quebec as a young man and, over the years, worked in many jobs that introduced him to lifelong friends. His kindness, dedication, and quiet strength left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. He was always generous with his time to lend a helping hand to his neighbours and also contributed over 100 blood donations.
We would like to thank Dr. Katrina MacKay, Nurse Practitioner Shauna Wright, the staff at Andrews of Parkhill and Stewart Memorial Home. We especially want to acknowledge all of the staff at the Summerset Manor for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Dad and our entire family. You went above and beyond in so many ways, always treating Dad with kindness, dignity, patience and genuine care especially during his final hours.
Special thank you to family, friends and a special neighbour who have always been there for him and us.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, Summerside, where funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 12:30pm until 1:45pm. Interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Summerside. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the PEI Alzheimer's Society or the Summerset Manor Memorial Trust Fund would be appreciated.
