Surrounded by love, Barry Herman MacLeod passed away at the age of 66, at Prince County Hospital on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Born in Tyne Valley, he was the son of his late parents,  Herman (D 2022) and Blanche (Baglole) (D 2005) MacLeod. Barry worked at Prince County Hospital for over 30 years as an Engineer and enjoyed his job very much. In 1983 he married his soul mate Shelley Boekema and had been married for over 43 years. They were blessed with two daughters, Jantina  (Tish Brown) and Natasha. Natasha passed in 1995 at the age of 8 years.

His greatest joy was the most incredible gift Jantina could give him, his two grandchildren Arianna and Thatcher Laughlin. Gampy cherished them with all his heart.

He is survived by his older sister Dianne VanBuskirk, his only niece Melissa VanBuskirk (Ryan Gillis) and his adorable great nephew Jesse Gillis.

Barry will also be lovingly remembered by his father-in-law, Francis Boekema and his mother-in-law, Enid Boekema. He had a very special bond with the both of them.

He will be missed terribly by his brother-in-law, John Boekema (Darlene), and his two nephews, Benjamin and Jacob Boekema.

Barry will be remembered for his love of family, his kindness and a quiet presence. For 42 years many children passed through his doors and he loved everyone of them. He loved curling and golf and was a handyman of many things. These pleasures disappeared when Parkinsons arrived, which he lived with for 21 years.

When Barry progressed it took some very special people that made he and Shelley’s life easier. Paulette and Paul Estey were always one step ahead in knowing what they needed and they are loved dearly. Stephen and Kelli Ellis were always just a phone call away regardless of the time, as well as their children Karli and Stephannie (Jon Waddell) always helping Shelley with things that she just couldn’t get to. They were surrounded with so much Love!

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Prince County Hospital for their care and compassion. They treated Barry with such respect. A special mention to the Emergency and Surgery teams. You were amazing!

Barry loved animals, so in lieu of flowers, and due to a severe allergy to lilies of a family menber, donations in his memory to PEI Humane Soceity would be greatly appreciated. 

Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Monday, August 24, 2026 for a funeral service in the chapel at 6 p.m. Visitation from 5-6 p.m. before the service.  Interment to following the service at People's Cemetery, Summerside.
