With grieving hearts, we announce the passing of Murray L. McColeman on Friday, August 7th, 2026 at the O’Leary Community Hospital, Palliative Wing. With dignity, strength, prayers and his family by his side throughout his last day of fighting the good fight. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, he was the son of the late Dalton McColeman and his mother Helen (nee Honess) McColeman.

A Royal Canadian Navy Veteran, Murray served on a number of HMCS ships during his service duties as a Firefighter/ Air Bozen on board Naval Ships at sea on deployments.

Murray spent 26 years post Naval service as a youth worker at Summerside Youth Centre with the provincial government.

He also worked as commissionaire corporation on various security projects, primarily at Slemon Park Covid site for approximately two years with his fellow commissionaire colleagues. Murray spent many years working one-on-one with youth, and using their home to provide Emergency Foster Parents care to a number of youth. Many of those youth now adults have remained in contact over the years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Norma (Lecky), his son Nathan (Robin), grandsons Reid, Breton, Jaxen and Kai. Sisters Barb Grace, Lynn McColeman, brothers in-law and sisters in-law Peter and Hester Maciaczyk, Bryan Grace, Donna and Brian Fitzpatrick, Judy Dowhaniuk, Shirley Bowness and Dorothy Lecky. As well as numerous nieces and nephews he loved dearly. 

Special thanks to the Doctors and medical staff at the Prince County Hospital and the O’Leary Community Hospital for their kindness, compassion and care towards Murray and his family during his illness.  It was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.

Visiting hours will be held at Centre 150 Summerside Community Church 150 Industrial Crescent, Summerside  on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 12:00 to 1:45 pm followed by a Celebration of Life and Memory for Murray at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Murray’s memory can be made directly to the Prince County Hospital Oncology, Canadian Cancer Society. or Respite Cottage of Hope.
