After a long and well-lived life, the death occurred peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Andrews of Summerside on Saturday, August 1, 2026, of Peter “Louis” Praught of Summerside, PEI, aged 104 years.

Born in Grand River, PEI, Louis was the son of the late Leo and Louise (Malone) Praught. He was the last surviving member of his family, predeceased by his siblings Emmett (Mary), Daniel (Eileen), Kathleen (Sr. St. Leo), Arnold (Kay), Roy (Margaret), Neil (Grace), Marion (Harry Beeston), Walter (Mary), Fred (Delores), Leonard, and Jackie.

Louis married the love of his life, Myrtle (Barry) Praught. They began their married life in Wellington Centre before moving to Richmond in 1966, where they lovingly raised their family. Myrtle predeceased him in 2001 after sharing many happy years together. Louis’ family was his greatest blessing and greatest source of pride. Left to cherish his memory are his children Jack (Gail), Leo, Claire (Brian) Colwill, Brian (Lois), Michael (Camilla), Kevin (Nelda), and Emmett (Nancy); his daughter-in-law Betty; his brother-in-law Frank (Lori) Barry; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Louis was predeceased by his sons Louis Jr. (1954), Errol (1998), Reggie (2003), and Gerry (2010); his daughters-in-law Sheila and Vanessa; his son-in-law Don; his sister-in-law Joan DesRoches; and his in-laws Russell Barry, Edna MacDonald, and Mary C. Gillis.

Louis was a carpenter by trade and worked for many years at M.F. Schurman’s Ltd., where he formed many lifelong friendships. After retiring, he looked forward to regular rounds of golf with his great friends Lloyd Frost, Ray Brown, and Gabriel Chiasson. He also had a great love of playing cards, a pastime he enjoyed right up until a few months ago.

A man of deep and unshaken faith, Louis lived his life with kindness, humility, and gratitude. He was well known for making what many agreed was the very best peanut butter fudge. An avid Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox fan, he rarely missed cheering on his favorite teams.

Christmas was always the highlight of the year at the Praught home. As the family grew to include children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, the living room became so full it was nearly impossible to find a place to sit. Wanting to keep everyone together, Louis eventually began hosting Christmas dinner at the St. Eleanor’s Lions Club, where four generations of family gathered each year to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner. The extra space also allowed him to invite special friends to celebrate alongside his family. These gatherings became treasured family traditions, and nothing brought Louis greater joy than seeing four generations of his family gathered around the table. Surrounded by the people he loved most—family and friends alike—he was truly in his glory.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Andrews Parkhill and Andrews of Summerside for the exceptional kindness, compassion, dignity, and respect shown to Louis over the past 10 years. A special thank you goes to “his girls” at Andrews, whose warmth and friendship meant so much to him. Whenever they entered his room, they were always greeted with one of his warm smiles.

Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, until Thursday, August 6, 2026, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Richmond. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 5, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed on the Immaculate Conception Church Facebook page for those unable to attend in person. Memorial donations in Louis’ memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund.
