It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ellen Johnson (nee Phillips) who passed away peacefully at the Community Hospital O'Leary, on July 28th, 2026 at the age of 80 years. Born on November 25th, 1945 to her late parents, Brenton and Doris Phillip. She was the beloved wife of Gary Johnson for 64 years. 

Ellen was the loving mother of Angela (Lowell) Webb, Norma (Jeffrey) Smallman, Judy (Dusko) Johnson, and Karen (David) MacCarville. She will be lovingly remembered by her seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren who always loved to find her cookie jar when they visited her, as it was always well stocked with chocolate bars. Nieces and nephews were also very special to Ellen and she appreciated the vists and love.  

Ellen is survived by the following brothers and sisters, Frances(Arthur) Lewis, Brenda Phillips, Iris Gairns, Ronnie (Jodi) Phillips, Paul (Heidi) Phillips; and in-laws, Fredderick (Bonita) Johnson, Rita Collicutt, and Mary Johnson. 

She is predeceased by her late parents, Brenton and Doris Phillips; and her parents-in-law, Oliver and Georgie Johnson; and sister, Lorna (Lloyd) Gard; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, Allan Leard, Kenneth Garins, Kenneth Johnson, Lorne Johnson, Ronald Cullicutt, and Dale Johnson; including her long-time friend, Lillian MacLean.

Ellen loved to engage people in real and genuine conversation. She loved her old country music and through the years found great joy amongst her flowers that she planted at her house in Knutsford. Her greatest happiness came from raising her four children and surrounding herself with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and faith were so important to her, and she truly leaves a beautiful legacy of love behind for her family to remember her by. 

Ellen was always a loyal, dedicated hard working employee for the following businesses throughout her working years; O'Leary Co-op, H.B. Willis's, Cavendish Agri Services, and for her last few years that she worked it was done alongside her husband Gary at the G&E Restaurant. 

Ellen's family would like to extend a special thank you to all those that were involved in Ellen's care and to all those that offered friendship and compassion to her over the years.  They are grateful to all the staff at Western Hospital and Community Hospital O'Leary for the great care and kindness she was shown while in their care. 

Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, until Friday July 31, 2026, then to O'Leary United Church for visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m, with funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow after funeral service in Knutsford Cemetery, Knutsford, PE.
