Dear Dad,
I am writing this as part of my grieving, trying to make sense of the loss and the quiet moments that now feel so different. Today was my first day alone, and the loneliness hit hard. For so long, my thoughts were centered on taking care of you. Now I’m learning how to carry those thoughts in a new way.
I want to share some things — for myself, for Rebecca, Jeremy, and Jonathan — because each of us is grieving in our own way: through sadness, anger, reflection, and celebration. You were a tough soul right to the very end. I had hoped to see you settled in the manor, where maybe you and I could have gotten to know each other better. I know there were things you wanted to know about me, just as there were things I wanted to know about you. Someday, I believe we will have that chance.
Dad, I know you loved each one of us in your own special way. You were never a soft man, but in the last two years, something changed. I could hug you, tell you I loved you, and you gave that love back. Those moments meant more than you knew.
The memories you gave us will last a lifetime. Our family vacations were some of the best — two weeks in the States, with our oldest brother squeezed between you and Mom in the front seat, and Rebecca, Jonathan, and me packed into the back. The zoo, the malls, and of course the laughter when you got caught speeding and tried to talk your way out of it. Those moments shaped us.
You passed down your traits to each of us. Rebecca is direct and to the point. Jeremy still loves taking holidays in the States with his family. And the twins — Jonathan and I — work hard, just as you taught us. You always said, “If you want something, you have to earn it by working hard.” That is your legacy.
As our cousin Holly said, there wasn’t a person in PEI who didn’t know you — or whom you didn’t know. We could stop anywhere and you’d be chatting away while we kids grew restless. Holly joked that people thought you were the mayor; honestly, you could have been a politician. You were an entrepreneur, building your own business and running it successfully for over thirty years.
You took us to Maple Leaf Dairy for mini sips — such a small thing, but unforgettable. And I was able to honour your wish: to bring all of your children together. We gathered with most of the grandchildren too. We shared supper, stories, and laughter — the kind that helps heal.
You always said you were going to “chew the fat,” meaning you were off for coffee. Your opening line was always, “So what’s all the stir?” Those little sayings will stay with us forever.
In the end, Dad, you were not alone. We were there when you passed. We mourned you together in the chapel at the PCH, staying all day and into the evening. You will not be forgotten. You will be remembered and loved.
You always told us, “Pick yourself up — life goes on.”
You were right, Dad.

Dear Uncle Jerry,
May you find peace now.
You were always my favourite tour guide when we came to the island. One hand on the wheel and the other out the window waving to everyone. I thought you were the Mayor of Summeside the way you knew everyone and everyone knew you. Always a smile on your face, always a good story to tell.
As the baby of the Simpson family you were cared for and looked after in such a loving manner, by your parents Claude and Irene of course, but by your brothers for years to come.
My parents enjoyed their time with your especially every April for over 20 years as you joined them in Florida. And I loved how each time my father would tease his little Island brother who did not eat seafood. We had a lot of good meals and laughs together.
And after working three jobs to provide for your family you became an entrepreneur and ran your own business and employed many people over the years. You were so diligent, loyal and responsible to your clients.
After my father died, you were a great comfort to me with your texts, your sensitivity and sweet manor were truly something I will cherish. Thank you for being a kind Uncle and reaching out to me, sometimes daily, to heal my heart.
I included a photo of the second to last time the three brothers were together in 2004 at my wedding. Happy to tease, laugh, enjoy and love each other completely. May the three of you continue to do so wherever you are.

i am so saddened by the passing of Jerry. He was like a brother to us...always visiting our family..he belonged there....he even called himself "our Bro". He loved Mom & Dad (Daphne & Leonce). Our brother Larry will be very happy to see him..as will all his family. Mom will probably make fish and chips tomorrow (Friday night) in his honour. I will miss you very much Uncle Jerry. I grew up with you around a lot as you were 12 when I was born to your older brother Jack. I am saddened to hear of Jerrys passing. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. I have known Jerry for 60 years and shared many laughs and some tears. Our relationship was on a business, friendship and RCMP Auxiliary program basis. Always ready to help anyone, no matter the time or situation. A terrific guy who is now officially 10-7. I was sadddened to hear of Jerry's passing today I have spoken with Jerry in past yrs I had a great respect for Jerry, when we used his company security business He also reimbursed me on one break and enter that the employee wasnt aware there was more than one room with sensors Jerry was quickly on the spot and gave me a cheque for the loss in the break in. ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
