The death occurred peacefully at Prince County Hospital on Sunday, July 12, 2026 of Joan Carol Rumson (nee Durant) of Summerside, PE, formerly of Miscouche, PE to her late parents,  Willard and Mabel (nee Perry) Durant, aged 87 years. Beloved wife of the late Wilfred Joseph Gallant and loving mother of Linda Melvin of Beaver Harbour, NB, Brenda Gaudet of Summerside, PE, William (Ellen) Rumson of Riverview, NB; and step-son, Jeffery (Stephanie) Gallant of Charlottetown, PE. 

Joan is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Stephanie, Vanessa, Carissa, Byron, Joshua, Geoffrey, and Jacob; and great-grandchildren, Reese, Dylan, Charlotte and Blaise. 

She is survived by the sister, Shirley (Richard) Veale; and brother Danny (Darlene) Durant; along with several aunts, cousins and nieces and nephews.

Joan is predeceased by her late parents, husband and daughter from infancy, Carol Ann. 

During Joan's life caring for others was her motto, as she still provided respite care for those in need up until she was 85 years old.  Her greatest joys in life came from her family and friends that she loved dearly.  She gained great joys from her Summerside meat darts group, her bar clamming, gardening and being at her cottage, living the beautiful Island way of life.

The family wish to give thanks for the compassionate care their mother received at Prince County Hospital from all the staff, with special mention to Dr. Atul Sabharwal for the noticed exceptional care and kindness.

Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, PE until Thursday, July 16th, 2026, for a visitation from 11:30am to 12:45pm, with a funeral service to follow in the chapel at 1:00 pm.  Interment to take place at a later date.
