Gladys was born on January 23, 1946 and was the 7th child of Leo and Josephine (Poirier) Doucette of Pleasant View. No doubt being 7th in line was instrumental in the development of her character that exemplified patience, kindness and compassion.
Gladys and Lloyd settled in Miscouche, and she was a devoted wife and mother to Donna, Debbie, and Scott. She was a hardworking and frugal homemaker with an open door to family, friends, and neighbours. She was calm, soft-spoken, and will be remembered by all for her gentle nature and her selflessness in her care for others. This was never more evident than the years she spent caring for Lloyd as he endured numerous health issues, later providing that same loving support to Bill. Her compassion was extended to many during her lifetime.
Her own cancer diagnosis, treatment, and subsequent dementia diagnosis four years ago led to her being cared for at the Tignish Seniors Home and later at the Margaret Stewart Ellis Long Term Care facility in O’Leary. We extend our sincere thanks to both facilities.
Gladys always showed patience and dignity while providing care to her friends and loved ones, and in spite of her own disease progression, she never lost her calm and kind demeanour, and continued to display her grateful smile. In these memories, she continues to be an inspiration for all of us to be patient and kind.
Gladys is in the care of the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside where visitation will take place on Thursday, June 25 from 1pm to 2pm. Her funeral will follow at St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Miscouche at 2:30pm. There will a reception following the burial at the lower level of the Miscouche Fire Hall.
