Bernie passed away suddenly on June 4, 2026, at the age of 72, leaving family and friends deeply saddened. She was raised in Borden by her late parents, Doris and Arthur Sexton. Beloved wife of John DesRoches for 50 years, and loving, proud mother of Jason (Gidget) DesRoches and Carl DesRoches.

Bernie was also a devoted and cherished Meme to her two grandchildren, Bailey (Austin) and Ashlyn, and will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters: Gerard (Sandra) Sexton, Roger Sexton, Dean Sexton, Joy (Paul) Carragher, and Irma Walsh. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Sheila Sexton and Yvonne Sexton.

Bernie was predeceased by her brothers Ralph and Andrew Sexton, her nephew Darren, and by her special nieces Lorene and Lynne.

Bernie will forever be remembered for her selfless, witty, musical, and adventurous spirit. She was the glue that held the family together. She never turned down a good time, whether it was a jam session with friends or a road trip with a van full of loved ones.

Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, for visiting hours on Monday, June 8, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at East Prince Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 9, at 10:00 a.m.

Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Bernie's life at the Borden Legion Tuesday June 9th at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernie's memory may be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
