Liliane Gaudet, nee Wendel, of Miscouche, Prince Edward Island, passed away quietly at the Prince County Hospital at the age of 90. Born on December 26th, 1935, in Strasbourg, France, Liliane lived a life marked by courage, generosity, and deep devotion to both her family and her community.

In 1961, she came to Prince Edward Island and began building a new life in Miscouche. The journey from Alsace to Prince Edward Island was not always an easy one, and the life she encountered was very different from the one she had imagined. Coming from Strasbourg, she suddenly found herself adjusting to a much more modest rural life, including a home without hot water or an indoor toilet, and the many small realities of starting over far from everything familiar. In those early days, she was also learning how to find her place in a close-knit community where she was first seen as “the French woman” from away. Yet Liliane met those challenges with resilience and grace. In time, she built a life rooted in family, community, and belonging, and became a deeply respected and valued member of the Acadian and Francophone community.

Liliane was warm and loving to her family, and passionate about the Acadian and Francophone community of Prince Edward Island. She gave generously of her time, energy, and heart to help it grow and flourish. Over the years, she was involved with many organizations and causes, including La Voix acadienne, Canadian Parents for French, the parish council in Miscouche, the cultural committee foundation of the SSTA, and the Francophones d’âge d’or. She also served as president of La Belle-Alliance, where her leadership and dedication left a lasting mark. One of the projects she was especially proud of was helping lead the production of the musical Port LaJoie, which was presented in Prince Edward Island in 1994 and performed in Louisiana the following year. In 2015, her many years of exceptional volunteer service were recognized when she received the Prix hommage Isabelle-Gallant-Owen, an honour celebrating her selfless commitment to her community.

Above all, Liliane will be remembered for the love she gave so freely to her family. She was the beloved mother of Murielle, Roger (deceased September 2025) and James, and a proud and devoted grandmother to Ryan, Emily, and Grace, whom she loved very much. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, quiet strength, and cultural pride that will be felt for generations.

Following her wishes, there will be no funeral service or wake. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.

Née le 26 décembre 1935 à Strasbourg, en France, Liliane a mené une vie marquée par le courage, la générosité et un profond dévouement envers sa famille et sa communauté.

En 1961, elle est venue s’établir à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard et a commencé une nouvelle vie à Miscouche. Le passage de l’Alsace à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard n’a pas toujours été facile, et la vie qu’elle y a découverte était bien différente de celle qu’elle avait imaginée. En quittant Strasbourg, elle s’est soudainement retrouvée à s’adapter à un mode de vie rural beaucoup plus modeste, dans une maison sans eau chaude ni toilette intérieure, ainsi qu’aux nombreuses petites réalités qu’implique le fait de recommencer sa vie loin de tout ce qui lui était familier. Dans ces premières années, elle apprenait aussi à trouver sa place dans une communauté tissée serrée où elle était d’abord perçue comme « la Française » venue d’ailleurs. Pourtant, Liliane a affronté ces épreuves avec résilience et grâce. Avec le temps, elle a bâti une vie enracinée dans la famille, la communauté et le sentiment d’appartenance, et elle est devenue un membre profondément respecté et apprécié de la communauté acadienne et francophone.

Liliane était une personne chaleureuse et aimante envers sa famille, et profondément attachée à la communauté acadienne et francophone de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Elle a donné généreusement de son temps, de son énergie et de son cœur pour l’aider à grandir et à s’épanouir. Au fil des années, elle s’est impliquée dans de nombreux organismes et causes, notamment La Voix acadienne, Canadian Parents for French, le conseil paroissial de Miscouche, la fondation du comité culturel de la SSTA, ainsi que les Francophones de l’âge d’or. Elle a également été présidente de La Belle-Alliance, où son leadership et son dévouement ont laissé une marque durable. Parmi les projets qui lui tenaient particulièrement à cœur, elle était très fière d’avoir contribué à la production de la comédie musicale Port LaJoie, présentée à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard en 1994, puis en Louisiane l’année suivante. En 2015, ses nombreuses années de bénévolat exceptionnel ont été reconnues lorsqu’elle a reçu le Prix hommage Isabelle-Gallant-Owen, une distinction soulignant son engagement désintéressé envers sa communauté.

Par-dessus tout, Liliane restera dans les mémoires pour l’amour qu’elle a donné si librement à sa famille. Elle était la mère bien-aimée de Murielle, Roger (décédé en septembre 2025) et James, ainsi qu’une grand-mère fière et dévouée de Ryan, Emily et Grace, qu’elle aimait profondément. Elle laisse derrière elle un héritage de bonté, de service, de force tranquille et de fierté culturelle qui se fera sentir pendant des générations.

Conformément à ses souhaits, il n’y aura ni salon funéraire ni funérailles. La famille tiendra une célébration de sa vie à une date ultérieure.
