June Gallant Obituary
After a sudden and brief battle with illness, June Doris Gallant peacefully, with family by her side, went to her God on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
March 15th was Mothering Sunday, a day recognized in the U.K. and Ireland as a similar day to our Mother's Day. It celebrates the women who raised us, giving thanks for their love and sacrifice. Unconditional love, sacrifice, mercy, hospitality, and protection originate in the character of God. June embodied all of these traits to the ultimate level; therefore, this was a very appropriate day for her passing.
Born on June 12, 1941, she leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, Ernie, and her three children, Charlene LaPierre (Mike Deveau), Shane Gallant (Tanya Johnson), and Tara Gallant (Andy Gallant).
She is also lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren, Dominique and Desiree LaPierre, Blaize and Jaeger Gallant, and Jazmyn and Gideon Gallant. And of course, we would be remiss not to mention all of the "fur babies" over the years whom she adored.
She is also survived by sisters, Mary Mamay of Nova Scotia, Helen Brocklebank of Charlottetown, PEI and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Kenneth Ford of Northam, Mildred Woodside of Summerside, brothers, Albert Ford and David Ford, half-brother, Arnold Ford, and sister, Betty Thompson.
June, right up until her hospitalization, was an active community volunteer, including over 25 years of service with Prince County Hospital and the Catholic Women's League. She always took the utmost joy and pride in these endeavours.
Her biggest love was her family, and her love language, as expressed by many who knew her, was kindness, caring, giving, encouragement, reliability, and, most of all, putting others before herself ALWAYS.
June's "way" is her legacy, and how she left her mark upon everyone who knew her. She was a force to be reckoned with. What we would call a "firecracker" with things that she was passionate about, including her family, most of all. She was a "take charge" person, and after her final words to all her family, "Love You All To The Moon and Back", and "Take Care of Each Other, Especially Ernie", she chose to "let go" only when she felt that everybody was taken care of. We will do our very best, Mom, to honour you in carrying forth your legacy, but realize we have impossibly big shoes to fill. "DON'T CHANGE MOM" - Love your children.
Special thanks to ICU and the Medical Palliative Floor, specifically to Dr. Murphy, Dr. Zotova, Dr. Muttart, Dr. Arsenault-Sampson, Dr. McDonnell and all the nursing staff. Mom received the most amazing care from everyone, and it made a very difficult time a bit easier.
Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summeride, where a private funeral service will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in June's memory can be made directly to the Prince County Hospital Foundation. Interment to take place in St. Paul's cemetery at a later date. By personal request, there will be no visiting hours held.
