Gloria Anne Madeleine Steele (née Gallant)
December 3, 1937 – January 4, 2026
It is with heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived that the family of Gloria Anne Madeleine Steele announces her peaceful passing on January 4, 2026, in Summerside, PEI. Surrounded by the family she cherished, Gloria went to her rest after 88 years of adventure, compassion, and spiritual grace.
A Life of Adventure and Service
Born on December 3, 1937, Gloria was a woman of innate confidence and quiet wisdom. Her career as a Registered Nurse was more than a profession; it was a calling that took her far beyond the shores of Prince Edward Island. In her youth, she followed a spirit of wanderlust to Alaska and New York City, where she honed her craft and touched countless lives with her caring hands and steady heart.
Upon returning to her roots, Gloria became a pillar of the Summerside community. Her selflessness knew no bounds, nursing at Prince County Hospital, serving as a marriage counselor, sitting on the Prince County Hospital and PEI School of Nursing boards, and leading as a Girl Guide Commissioner. In her later years, she continued her mission of service through nursing home volunteerism and her dedicated work for Grandmothers for African Grandmothers.
A Legacy of Love and Music
Gloria’s life was a rich tapestry woven with music and faith. Whether she was at the piano or playing the guitar, her passion for music brought joy to family gatherings. Alongside her devoted husband, Charlie, she served as a "shining light" for her family, teaching them the values of hard work, self-care, and unconditional compassion for others.
Family
Gloria’s greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Steele, and her five children: David (Danielle), Chris (Ellen), Jeff (Joanne), Julie (Chad), and Michael.
She was the adored grandmother to Clarissa, Lauren, Rachael, Charlie, Kate, Kristen, Kathleen, and Alex, and a proud great-grandmother to Avery, Meadow, and Myla. She also leaves behind her brothers, Gavin, Paul, Wilfred, and sister Pat along with a wide circle of extended family and dear friends who will miss her spiritual presence and gentle guidance.
