Cody Chance DesRoches Obituary

Cody Chance Desroches passed away on December 11th, 2025, at the age of 32. While his journey was not an easy one, his heart and spirit were deeply felt by those who loved him.

Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Cody was proud to call Summerside his home. He was the beloved son of his loving father Gary Desroches and stepmother Paula Desroches (née Costain), and his devoted mother Deborah Rose Desroches, and stepfather Craig Sawkins.

Above all else, Cody was a deeply loving and devoted father to his son, Carter Paul Desroches (age 10). Carter was the light of Cody’s life, and Cody will always be remembered for the joy he found in being a Dad—his playfulness, patience, understanding, and the unconditional love he had for his son.

From a young age, Cody’s free spirit and love for life were unmistakable. As a little boy, he would sometimes wander off only to be found tap dancing at Spinnakers Landing, already performing for the world. His mother would find him there and lovingly explain that he was still too young to busk—an early glimpse of Cody’s joy, confidence, and natural desire to share happiness wherever he went.

Cody is lovingly remembered by his brother Joel Chaisson and fiancé  Milagros Bringas-Kewley, and by Joel’s children: Zephyr George Loachamin, Jett River Chaisson, and Annabelle Rose Chaisson. He will also be fondly remembered by his step-siblings Laura Chaisson and Chris Richard, and their children: Cody Chaisson, Brandon Costain, Tanner MacDougall, Autumn MacDougall, Robin Crane, Melvin Crane, and Martina Costain.

Cody is also remembered with gratitude and love by Kelsey Ford, Carter’s mother, and by Kelsey’s parents, Cheryl Koughan and Leo Koughan, for their kindness, love, and ongoing support of Carter and Cody’s family.

Cody’s family wishes to offer a very special and heartfelt acknowledgement to Brittany Laura King, who was Cody’s great love and steadfast supporter. Although they were no longer together at the time of his passing, Brittany stood by Cody with unwavering care, compassion, and love through many of his most difficult moments. Her presence, patience, and devotion meant more to him than words could ever express, and she will always hold a cherished place in his story and in the hearts of those who knew how deeply she loved him.

People were naturally drawn to Cody. He had an energy that made others feel welcome, seen, and inspired. Cody was deeply passionate about kickboxing, mixed martial arts, and working with children and youth. He founded the East Coast Kickboxing Club in Montague, Prince Edward Island, where he primarily taught kids and youth, creating a membership program that ran twice weekly. Through this, Cody shared not only physical skills, but discipline, confidence, and self-belief. He had a true entrepreneurial spirit, driven by dreams, goals, and a desire to build something meaningful. At the heart of all he hoped to do was a simple, powerful purpose—to be with kids and to help them grow.

Cody had a deep love for the outdoors and felt most at peace in nature. He loved fishing, building things with his hands, and creating something meaningful from nothing. With an easy smile and natural charm, Cody had a way with people—especially women—and carried a warmth that drew others to him. He lived life boldly and fully, unafraid to embrace adventure, laughter, and joy. Cody had an undeniable thirst for fun and for living, and those who shared those moments with him will forever hold them close.

Predeceased by his grandparents, who were a profound influence in his life and whom he loved deeply, Cody is now reunited with them—free from pain and suffering, and finally at peace.

Those who knew Cody will remember him for his gentle heart, his deep love for his son, his ability to understand others without judgment, and his warmth and humour. He had a way of making people feel seen and accepted, and his presence will be deeply missed.

In remembering Cody, we hold close the parts of him we loved most—his laughter, his kindness, his love for Carter, and the moments when his true self shone through. As a family, we take comfort in the words:

“He is everywhere with us, in the parts we choose to remember.”
