Frank Dominic Parslow Obituary

The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital on December 11, 2025, of Frank Dominic Parslow of Summerside, formerly of Bangor, Northern Ireland, and Kingston, Jamaica, aged 99 years.

Frank was born in Northern Ireland to his late parents, Vivien and Kathleen (Smyth) Parslow.

Beloved husband and soulmate of Margaret (Ferguson) Parslow and devoted father to Laurence (France) Parslow and Jennifer (Michael) MacDonald.

Also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Bethany (Ben), Rachel, Christopher, Sophie (Louis), and his great grandchildren, Romie and Ophélie.

Survived by his sister Eileen Somerville, Toronto; brother Ted (Mary) Parslow, Galway, Eire; sisters-in-law Anna (John), Northern Ireland; Agnes (Graham), Belgium, and Susan, United Kingdom. Also remembered by nieces and nephews, Michael, Peter, Vivian, Trevor, Anthony, Katrina, Sarah, Lucy, Anna, and Mark.

Predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law, Jim Somerville, sister in law Catherine (Derek), and brothers-in-law, Henry and Charlie.

Frank spent the first part of his life in Northern Ireland, an active member of his church, and very involved with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Red Cross. He attended Queen’s University in Belfast where he completed his civil engineering degree. He was also a very successful swimming coach in his home town of Bangor, Northern Ireland.

After meeting and marrying the love of his life, Margaret, they moved to Kingston, Jamaica on their honeymoon and on a two year work permit, and ended up staying in Jamaica for 18 years. It was there that Laurence and Jennifer were born and raised. In Jamaica, Frank worked as a Professional Civil Engineer for the Jamaican Government before starting a construction Company called Willisle.

After moving to Jamaica, Frank and Margaret began to play badminton as a means to meet other people and find an activity to do together as a couple. What started as a hobby became a life long passion that continued all through their life together. Frank became Margaret’s coach in Jamaica and was a major influence in Margaret becoming a triple Jamaican champion in badminton as well being a competitor in the Commonwealth Games in 1970.

In 1978, Frank and Margaret made the very difficult decision to leave Jamaica and move to Canada. In a very interesting twist of fate involving a meeting on a beach in Jamaica in December 1977, Frank and Margaret ended up having the opportunity to move to Prince Edward Island, and decided to make it their new home. This decision was made so much easier with the enormous help from D.R. and Moira Morrison who became lifelong friends.

On arriving in PEI, Frank and Margaret joined the Summerside Badminton Club where they made many new and special life long friends, continuing their passion for badminton which had started in Jamaica. They became Level 3 coaches and coached several Canada Winter Games Badminton teams passing on their skill and love for the sport to a long list of Island youth.

Frank worked as a Professional engineer until approximately 1996, first with Morrison and McCrae Construction in Summerside and then with Matheson and MacMillan in Charlottetown. Following a very short lived retirement, Frank  eagerly took on the role of Executive Director of the PEI Professional Engineers until 2007 when he retired at the age of 82. While perhaps not an “islander” by PEI standards, Frank was born on an island, (Ireland) moved to an island (Jamaica) and completed his life’s journey on a very special island, Prince Edward Island.

We would like to thank the staff and medical teams at both the Prince County Hospital and at South Shore Villa for the wonderful care that Frank received over the last few months of his life. We will be forever grateful for their kindness and compassion.

Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, PEI, until Wednesday December 17, 2025, then to St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church for funeral Mass at 11:00 am.  Internment to take place at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
